• Gjetost

Once made only from goats milk (‘gjet’=goat) it is eaten with jam on bread for breakfast in Norway. This creamy and fudge-like cheese is truly unusual and a definite case of ‘love it or hate it’. The maturing process of this unique cheese is very short and literally a matter of days, not weeks or months.

What with? Popular with children due to its sweet taste and unusually smooth texture Gjetost is best eaten thinly sliced on bread and does compliment anything fruity – whether it’s fresh melon, dried cranberries, Strawberry Jam or Sweet Apple Chutney.

You could be brave and Norwegian and serve it along side a slice of fruit cake for dessert or simply have it on your cheese board as a guaranteed talking point.
